The best robot vacuum will vacuum and mop your floors with no effort. It will also leave clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are pluses.
Make sure you regularly examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair and large particles and clean them as required. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin in the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. robot vacuum cleaners comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
